Loren Kane is a figurative oil painter living and working in Long Beach, CA. Graduating in 2023 from CSULB with a BA. Her work focuses on a female narrative through the female perspective. Her practice explores femininity and body ownership through ideas of visual ownership, performativity and ‘gaze’.  Using large-scale paintings, and honest representations and experiences of womanhood, her subjects undermine the natural response of sexualization and objectification over women and their bodies. Kane’s paintings are often self portraits which are a way of re-owning her body, gender, and sexuality, letting anyone see. All while aware of, and challenging, the viewers experience and perceptions of women. To make the viewer conscious, even uncomfortably, of their own gaze.
